Great Driving Holidays for Kids

Children are often bored by tedious car journeys and can be thoroughly miserable on a long car ride. Of course, the trick on long car journeys is to keep the little ones entertained to keep the status quo. The following car trips have enough excitement about them to single handily entertain a carful of restless children. Check them out and enjoy!

South America has a great smorgasbord of interesting stuff to do and most countries under the southern America umbrella are seriously child friendly. For instance, Argentina is a country that has beautiful playgrounds dotted all around, fantastic paddling pools, and always child-friendly menus in restaurants. You could easily spend a few days in Buenos Aries but getting outside the city will open up a whole new world. The roads leading to the pampas are open and wide, very similar to classic Wild West films.

It’s a great location to drive through and the kids will love the roaming cattle. Drive further south and the road to Uspallata becomes another unforgettable drive. The unpaved road leads the car up a winding track and puts you on top of the world.

A jogging llama or two will certainly pass the car and the mind-blowing photo opportunities come thick and fast. It is an easy trip to take with kids as the drops on the bends are rather terrifying but great fun. Chasing llamas is also a great sport as well as finding the highest peak for lunch.

The Canary Islands are packed with manmade adventures for kids. There are water parks galore, theme parks, and all manner of Themed restaurants. For something a little less manmade, try conquering a volcano. The drive up to any of the Canary Islands volcanoes can cause both awe and wonder amongst little ones (and some big ones too). One of the active volcanoes is in Montana’s del Fuego, in Lanzarote.

The beast is still bubbling away like a sleeping dragon and will have children overcome with wonder at the top. On the drive up there is a great, black volcanic road twisting high above the banana plantations and jungle. Make sure that when you organize your hire car, the wheels are good and sturdy, “these guys come recommended”.

Mexico is a great country to travel to by road. The advantage is that it is possible here to find amazing places that the typical tourist trail misses out on. In the Ruta Maya region of Mexico, the road to Merida from Cancun holds all kinds of amazing activities that kids love to try.

There are cenotes (large underwater pools of water in beautiful caves) that make for the best swimming pools in the world. Local kids use them as such and great fun can be had to splash about in the pure water. Look out for the signs along the road.

Also, try the beach at Tulum. As you have a car look out for the perfect sunset on the beach by the ruins. The kid loves splashing around in this part of the Caribbean Sea. There is something of Indiana Jones about this location and it will keep the kids happy, that is a certainty.

Try these fantastic locations and your kids will certainly enjoy the ride!
